Stephanie Zawaduk and Leah Buchanan are two Grade 12 students at Queen Elizabeth High School in Edmonton.

They have a passion for climate change issues and hope to engage youth through their involvement in The Centre for Global Education.

As Stephanie explains, the two are preparing a paper for presentation at the November COP 22 meeting in Marrakech.

STEPHANIE ZAWADUK :  So what this is about right now, a lot of it is about water.  So we’re focusing on climate change and the different impacts this has on oceans, water scarcity , these very important in terms of climate change research. So that’s definitely a very important aspect of this paper for us.

According to Leah Buchanan, more than ten thousand students are engaged in this global effort.

LEAH BUCHANAN:
So for this paper we’re actually partnered with the Green Sheik who is a Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates.  And this paper is actually the largest synthesis of youth opinion on this topic.  We have over 18 countries participating in the Conference of Youth, which is known as COY

Leah and Stephanie are hoping to raise enough funds so they can present their paper on climate change in person at COP 22 in Marakesh.
