Every second year, Syncrude holds a Research and Development Seminar.
Mal Carroll says the event is an opportunity to showcase new projects to Syncrude staff and its partners.
Mal Carrol is Syncrude’s General Manager of Research and Development.
MAL CARROLL:  So we would have our research partners such as the University of Alberta, University of Saskatchewan.  We have representatives from our owner companies, and also from the Government of Alberta and the regulators  So it’s an opportunity to share what we’ve been working on.  But it’s also an opportunity for technical people to network.  And certainly when you have a day and you’re learning about a number of new topics, it gets the creative juices flowing, let’s say, and there’s lots of great conversation.  And I certainly have lots of follow up after these seminars with people excited about not only the technology that they learned about during the R&D seminar, but new ideas that were seeded during that session.
According to Mal Carroll, Syncrude’s research focuses on four areas – operational improvements, there’s enhanced bitumen extraction, third is tailings technology, and fourth is environmental reclamation.
Thanks today to Syncrude.
