Since 2009, The Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation has funded numerous projects  to help Alberta reduce its carbon footprint.

Now the CCEMC has a new name. And that’s ERA – Emissions Reduction Alberta.

Steve MacDonald is the interim CEO for ERA.

STEVE MACDONALD:   I think the new name more clearly reflects our mandate.  And that mandate is to identify and accelerate the development of innovative technologies.  We have a very clear focus on technology solutions.  And that , that’s important, too.  And I think it’s a new beginning in the way that the name change reflects.    There’s going to be some organizational changes.  We’re going to ensure we’re closely aligned and more integrated into the Alberta innovation ecosystem.  It also gives us chance to reconnect with our industry partners and ensure the work we’re doing is driven by their needs and identifying technology solutions that they need for problems they have.  It truly is a chance to refresh and signal that new beginning with that clarity we need to move forward.

Steve MacDonald says ERA will continue supporting the GRAND Challenge for CO2 conversion, and expects to announce the next Round 2 winners in the New Year.
