The Centre for Research and Innovation
in Grande Prairie not only supports inventors, it also has a strong applied research component.

Bruce Rutley manages the Centre which is housed at the Grande Prairie Regional College in northwest Alberta.

BRUCE RUTLEY:
We have two major initiatives on the natural sciences.  Both of these are NSERC funded and we’re quite proud of these research initiatives. For example, our initiative that we call Pollutants to Products is looking at ways of turning carbon dioxide or carbon from the air, to capture that and convert that into a useful product.  Now we have a forestry applications but the one that we’re spending most attention on right now is with micro-algae.  And we have developed a micro algae photo bio reactor and we believe it’s the most efficient one in the world.  And we have what we call a carbon capture solarium and Dr. Tan and Dr Adabousier are working to develop that technology.

Bruce Rutley says Grande Prairie’s Centre for Research and Innovation also supports a new lab  to diagnose problems affecting bees.
