Metabolomic Technologies Inc is one step closer to getting its new diagnostic test for colon cancer to market.

That’s thanks to $375,000 in funding from Alberta Innovates Health Solutions and the Alberta Cancer Legacy Fund.

The company has developed a simple urine test that shows if a person has pre-cancerous polyps.

According to MTI’s CEO Reg Jospeh explains, the funding will help the company scale up the test’s application.

REG JOSEPH: The first aspect is we’re doing a logistics trial in Lethbridge Alberta. We wanted to do it in a smaller community in Alberta but also quite, distant from Edmonton so that we would have to hand over all the logistics to another third party. The second part of it is, we also know that to be able to screen large numbers of individuals, we would have to get this on to what we call a testing platform that’s in scale to large populations. So we will also be working with DynaLife here in Edmonton to look at developing that high through-put platform to be able to deliver this test to a large number of people.

Reg Joseph says MTI’s urine test for colon cancer should be available to doctors within two years.
