Kim Sturgess
is an engineer, entrepreneur, and among Canada’s top one hundred women of influence.

Now she’s putting her muscle behind her passion – and that’s water.

At the recent InnoWest Conference in Calgary, Kim Sturgess spoke about her experience as the founder and CEO of Alberta WaterSmart.

This is a not-for profit organization dedicated to water management through better practices and technologies.

Through WaterSmart Kim has establish the Alberta Water Portal on the internet.

And now she’s trying her hand as inventor. Her product is called a “water press” and it’s the size of a water bottle or go-cup.

KIM STURGESS:
This started in August of 2006, actually, sitting by the Athabasca River at my campsite saying, I’d really like to drink this water out of the tap here at the campsite rather than drinking out of these horrific plastic water bottles. But you know, how do I do that.? I’m not comfortable necessarily with the quality of the water even though they’ve declared it clean. So I was looking at my coffee press and came up with the idea of actually just pressing the water through a filter.

Kim Sturgess says she has spent the last two years developing and refining the water press, and expects to launch the product early in 2011.
