If you are just itching to mix your creative talent with a hint of science and a dash of political comment, here’s your chance.

It’s BIOTECH ART.

In anticipation of National Biotechnology Week in Canada, Genome Alberta and Biotech Canada are sponsoring a digital art contest. And there are cash prizes.

Mike Spear
of Genome Alberta explains.

MIKE SPEAR:
And we’re doing it to get people to think about biotechnology and society. There are a lot of issues there. How does biotechnology affect us in our day to day life? How does biotechnology affect our health? Have we looked at the public policy issues? What are the ethical issues? What are the environmental issues? These are all questions that come up. And for people who may have a problem articulating it in words, or may have not given it any real thought, this is an opportunity to put it down in a digital form of art and have some creative license, because we’re not looking for a definitive answer. There’s no right or wrong in this. It’s a chance to express your opinion using art.

Mike Spear says submissions to the BioTech Art contest will be accepted until September 16th. And visitors to www.GenomeAlberta.ca can vote online to help pick the top ten choices.
