Now the man who starred in that production has been honoured by NSERC, The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
John Acorn has been named the recipient of this year’s Michael Smith Award for Science Promotion.
Smith was a Nobel Laureate. Acorn currently lectures at the University of Alberta. Along with his popular TV series, John Acorn has authored 17 books. And his “Deep Alberta” radio series delved into the history of dinosaurs.
John Acorn is a man who loves bugs and birds. And for him, science education is all about shared enthusiasm.
JOHN ACORN: The objective should be to get people interested in the subject matter of science. So I just try to get out and expose people to the tremendous diversity of animals, how interesting they are, how much we know about them, how much we still need to know about them, or could know about them if we so chose. And that’s my approach. Shared enthusiasm!
Next on the busy agenda of this Nature Nut is a book about the ladybugs of North America.
