It\u2019s quite another to reclaim the mine sites back to forests and wetlands.\n<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\nCONRAD &#8211; The Canadian Oil Sands Network of Research and Development, <\/b>recently gathered professors and grad their students for its annual symposium on reclamation research.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe symposium is an opportunity for graduate students to present their research which addresses important oil sands issues.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nChairing this year\u2019s symposium was <b>Robert Vassov, <\/b>a vegetation researcher with Syncrude Canada Ltd.\n<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\nROBERT VASSOV: <\/b><em>We have such a range of activities that cover wetland research, soil research, vegetation research, hydrology, water research .  And  I like to think that it\u2019s as difficult to put the ecosystem back together as it is to make oil.  I think in some respects its even more difficult.   Because the scope of the environment is so wide.
