{"id":838,"date":"2010-06-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-06-17T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2018\/02\/01\/innovation-anthology-323\/"},"modified":"2018-02-25T21:30:16","modified_gmt":"2018-02-25T21:30:16","slug":"innovation-anthology-323","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2010\/06\/17\/innovation-anthology-323\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovation Anthology #323:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/innovationanthology.com\/uploads\/1-Innovation Anthology 323.mp3\">Download MP3 Link<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nWhat happens when two industries like <b>forestry and energy<\/b> compete for the same land base?\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIn northeastern Alberta, <b>Alberta Pacific Forest Industries<\/b> has demonstrated that cooperation can not only save both industries money, it can also reduce the environmental impact.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThat effort made AlPac the first winner of the new category Shared Footprints for Excellence in Integrated Land Management at the <b>2010 Emerald Awards.<\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\nDon Pope<\/b> is AlPac\u2019s Integrated Land Management Specialist.\n <\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\nDON POPE: <\/b><em>What we\u2019ve done is help them narrow down seismic lines to the point where they are almost negligible on the landscape anymore.  And there is no lasting footprint comes from most of that exploration technique.  On the development side, we\u2019ve initiated planning projects with all of the mines and with the SAGD developers there.   And on the reclamation side now, we\u2019ve taken an initiative through the University of Alberta\u2019s research program.   And we\u2019ve been planting trees as an operational project on the landscape.
