{"id":716,"date":"2009-12-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-03T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2018\/02\/01\/innovation-anthology-273\/"},"modified":"2018-02-25T21:30:11","modified_gmt":"2018-02-25T21:30:11","slug":"innovation-anthology-273","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2009\/12\/03\/innovation-anthology-273\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovation Anthology #273:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/innovationanthology.com\/uploads\/Innovation Anthology 273.mp3\">Download MP3 Link<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Canadian Council of Academies<\/strong> has recently published its report called <strong><em>Business and Innovation Strategies: Why Canada Falls Short.<\/em><\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Speaking at<strong> InnoWest 2009,<\/strong> Academies&rsquo; President<strong> Peter Nicholson<\/strong> said Canada falls short on the Innovation front because Canadian business has been quite successful without a focus on innovation. <\/p>\n<p><strong>PETER NICHOLSON:<\/strong><em> I think that business behavior will not change significantly unless and until the circumstances that they face in the marketplace change. And I think those are changing. You&rsquo;ve got the great opportunities in Asia. You&rsquo;ve got increasing vulnerability of our access to the US market, whether its protectionism or its national security concerns. We&rsquo;ve got the environmental concerns surrounding resource production which are going to require more innovation. We&rsquo;ve got the aging population, which means we&rsquo;re going to have to get a lot more productivity out of our labour force, and that will require more innovation.
