920.mp3\">Download MP3 Link<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Every second year, Syncrude holds a Research and Development Seminar.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Mal Carroll says the event is an opportunity to showcase new projects to Syncrude staff and its partners.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Mal Carrol is Syncrude\u2019s General Manager of Research and Development.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">MAL CARROLL:<span style=\"font-style: italic;\"> \u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">So we would have our research partners such as the University of Alberta, University of Saskatchewan. \u00a0We have representatives from our owner companies, and also from the Government of Alberta and the regulators \u00a0So it\u2019s an opportunity to share what we\u2019ve been working on. \u00a0But it\u2019s also an opportunity for technical people to network. \u00a0And certainly when you have a day and you\u2019re learning about a number of new topics, it gets the creative juices flowing, let\u2019s say, and there\u2019s lots of great conversation. \u00a0And I certainly have lots of follow up after these seminars with people excited about not only the technology that they learned about during the R&amp;D seminar, but new ideas that were seeded during that session.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>According to Mal Carroll, Syncrude\u2019s research focuses on four areas \u2013 operational improvements, there\u2019s enhanced bitumen extraction, third is tailings technology, and fourth is environmental
