\nNow that Dr. Jacques Magnan has retired, the man taking on the job of President and CEO of Alberta Innovates Health Solutions<\/b> is Dr. Cy Frank.<\/b>\n<\/p>\n

\nDr. Frank is a highly respected orthopaedic surgeon, researcher and medical professor at the University of Calgary.\n<\/p>\n

\nAnd he\u2019s already facing the challenges of his new position.\n<\/p>\n


\n DR. CY FRANK:<\/b> My biggest challenge is expanding the role of AIHS to have more direct impact in health and health care and realigning the research and innovation programs with the health system. So, in fact, in this last budget the Government announced a realignment of AIHS with the Minister of Health. Linkage to health in my mind is critical to be able to implement research and innovation of value in the health system so that we can see more impacts more quickly with patients and the public.<\/em>\n<\/p>\n

\nDr. Frank says his goal is to build more capacity for applied research while still supporting good basic research.\n<\/p>\n

Our Mandate and Roles document reflects our role and responsibilities and outlines the government statues and regulations with which we comply.<\/p>\n

Alberta’s Health Research and Innovation Strategy (AHRIS) sets out Alberta’s health research agenda for the coming decade to ensure our considerable investments in research align with our priority—to improve the health of Albertans.<\/p>\n
