{"id":1372,"date":"2013-03-14T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-03-14T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2018\/02\/01\/innovation-anthology-542\/"},"modified":"2018-02-25T21:30:43","modified_gmt":"2018-02-25T21:30:43","slug":"innovation-anthology-542","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2013\/03\/14\/innovation-anthology-542\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovation Anthology #542:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/innovationanthology.com\/uploads\/Innovation Anthology 542.mp3\">Download MP3 Link<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nAs<b> oil sands development<\/b> continues in northeastern Alberta, <b>habitat<\/b> is lost for animals like <b>moose and wolves<\/b>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAt the recent CONRAD Symposium on oil sands reclamation, forest ecologist <b>Holger Bohm <\/b>reported on the recent findings of <b>WHEC,<\/b> the Wildlife Habitat, Effectiveness and Connectivity Program.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAccording to Holger Bohm, the WHEC study area for<b> wolves <\/b>covers a 150 square kilometer strip just north of Fort McMurray.\n<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\nHOLGER BOHM:<\/b> <em>We put radio collars on wolves to track their movements mainly.  So that entails obviously catching them and attaching a collar to the wolf and then we get the wolf location sent to us, to the computer.  And we can pretty much real life now with the new technology follow the wolves on a daily basis on the computer, seeing where they walked.  Given that we are looking into connectivity, we are really interested into seeing how wolves move between mines.  Do they walk along rivers or linear features.
