After two years of transition, Alberta Innovates Health Solutions<\/strong> is ready to launch its new funding regime <\/strong>for health research. <\/p>\n

CEO Dr. Jacques Magnan<\/strong> gives this overview. <\/p>\n

DR. JACQUES MAGNAN: <\/strong> So we have collaborative research opportunities that will offer programs of research, projects, programs or teams between $150,000 to a million dollars a year for up to five years for doing collaborative research that is aimed at a relevant health research issue in the Province that end users are interested in, So that’s one of them. We have a catalyst opportunity that aims to add value to great ideas, again pilot projects, high risk projects We have a sustainability fund to help maintain competitiveness of the research activity in the Province on the national scene. We have training programs that have been redesigned to provide for career development for graduate and post graduate students. And we have a new Translational Chairs program that is going to be put in place in collaboration with the four Alberta Innovates corporations and the four comprehensive Alberta research institutions and the Government.<\/em> <\/p>\n

Dr. Jacques Magnan says the search to fill these transitional chairs in health research is already underway. <\/p>\n

Alberta Innovates – Health Solutions was established as part of the Alberta Innovates system by an Act of Legislation of the Government of Alberta. It is a agency  of the Government of Alberta. We receive a yearly allocation from the Ministry of Health and report through the ministry to the people of Alberta.<\/p>\n

Our Mandate and Roles document reflects our role and responsibilities and outlines the government statues and regulations with which we comply.<\/p>\n

Alberta’s Health Research and Innovation Strategy (AHRIS) sets out Alberta’s health research agenda for the coming decade to ensure our considerable investments in research align with our priority—to improve the health of Albertans.<\/p>\n
