Dr. Lorne Babiuk is a world renowned virologist and creator of vaccines who spent most of his career at the University of Saskatchewan. He is currently Vice President, Research at the University of Alberta. In 2012 he was presented with the Canada Gairdner-Wightman Award in recognition of his lifelong contributions to science and society.

Lethbridge, Alberta is hosting the 52nd annual Canada Wide Science Fair. 500 young scientists in grades 7 through 12 are competing in this national event and will demonstrate their inventions, experiments and innovations to a panel of 350 judges.
