Edmonton - This year’s nominations for the 2012 BIOTECanada Gold Leaf Awards included three Alberta based Life Sciences companies, KMT Hepatech, Inc, Sinoveda Canada Inc., and Ceapro Inc.
The Gold Leaf Awards are an annual event intended to recognize both companies and individuals who have made significant achievements with the Canadian life sciences industry.
This year, KMT Hepatech was one of the eleven companies nominated for the “Biotech Company of the Year” Award. Using their proprietary KMT Mouse™, a transgenic mouse model with a humanized liver, KMT Hepatech provides in vivo research services to companies who are in preclinical development of Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B and Malaria therapeutics and vaccines. Winners of this Award from previous years have included other Alberta-based life sciences companies including SemBioSys Genetics Inc. and BioMS Medical Corp. (now Medwell Capital Corp.). The winner of this category will be announced at the end of May.
Sinoveda Canada Inc., whose patent pending PPT® drug development technology is used to develop therapeutically efficacious, highly standardized nutraceutical and pharmaceutical products, was nominated for the “Early Stage Company of the Year – Health” Award. The award winnner for this year went to Therapure Biopharma Inc., a biopharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization based in Ontario.
The “Early Stage Company of the Year – Industrial/Agriculture” Award received five nominations this year, including one for Ceapro Inc. This Alberta-based life sciences company is focused on the development of proprietary extraction technology, and the application of this technology to develop and commercialize innovative active ingredients from renewable and sustainable resources, for both human and animal health markets. Alberta-based MBEC Bioproducts (now Innovotech Inc.) was a previous winner in this category. The winner of this category award went to BioAmber, a next-generation, bio-succinic acid producer from Ontario.
Congratulations to these companies whose achievements throughout the year have contributed to their Gold Leaf Award nominations .
