Edmonton - Three TEC Edmonton client companies -  KMT Hepatech, SinoVeda Canada, and Ceapro Inc. – were finalists in BIOTECanada’s 2012 Gold Leaf awards.

BIOTECanada, Canada’s leading industrial biotechnology sector association, produces the annual awards to recognize the  individual and corporate significant achievements of its members.

KMT Hepatech is one of 11 finalists in the Company of the Year category, with the winner to be announced at the end of May. KMT Hepatech is an University of Alberta spin-off company that has developed a transgenic mouse with a humanized liver that can be infected, for research purposes, with hepatitis C, hepatitis B or malaria. The KMT mouse will remain infected over extended periods of time.  www.kmthepatech.com

The category winner, now announced, was  biomanufacturer Therapure Biopharma of Mississauga,  Ontario. www.sinoveda.com

Ceapro made it to a five-company short list of finalists for the Gold Leaf Early Stage – Industrial and Agricultural category. Using proprietary technology, Edmonton-based Ceapro develops and commercializes active ingredients from Canadian crops for personal care, cosmetic and nutritional products. The category was won by bio-succinic acid producer BioAmber of Sarnia, Ontario. www.ceapro.com
