{"id":338,"date":"2008-06-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-06-17T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2018\/02\/01\/innovation-anthology-143\/"},"modified":"2018-02-25T21:29:54","modified_gmt":"2018-02-25T21:29:54","slug":"innovation-anthology-143","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2008\/06\/17\/innovation-anthology-143\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovation Anthology #143:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/innovationanthology.com\/uploads\/1-Innovation Anthology 143.mp3\">Download MP3 Link<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nOn March 20th 1992, oil scientist <b>Peter Sherrington<\/b> was out in the field when he looked up and caught sight of a golden eagle.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nBy the end of the day he\u2019d counted over a hundred.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSeventeen years later, Peter Sherrington now spends over 200 days a year near Kananaskis observing thousands of <b>golden eagles and other birds of prey.<\/b>  They are on migrations between the southern United States and Canada\u2019s Arctic.\n <\/p>\n<p>\nPeter\u2019s dedication was recently recognized by the <b>Emerald Foundation for Environmental Excellence.<\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<b><br \/>\nPETER SHERRINGTON:  <\/b><em>  The first three springs that we were out, we were counting 4200 to 4300 golden eagles.  And ever since that time, the numbers have been decreasing quite significantly.   We\u2019ve been building mathematical models to try and explain this.  And it looks as if the problem is with winter mortality.  So we\u2019re actually losing about over half of the young birds, that\u2019s birds between one and five years old, and as many as 65 percent of the juvenile birds.
