But what will be the legacy of IPY?\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThat\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a question scientists and public officials from many polar nations are trying to answer.   And they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve established a group called SAON to do just that.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSAON stands for Sustaining Arctic Observing Networks.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nOver 200 participants from SAON met in Edmonton in mid-April for the second of three workshops.  The first was in Stockholm.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nTheir goal is to establish long term international commitments to coordinate and sustain these Arctic Observing Networks.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nCo-chair<b> Dr. David Hik<\/b> from the University of Alberta describes the outcome of the Edmonton workshop.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<b><br \/>\nDR. DAVID HIK:  <\/b><br \/>\n<em> What we realized is we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re very close to achieving our objectives.
