{"id":2371,"date":"2018-01-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-01-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2018\/02\/01\/innovation-anthology-924\/"},"modified":"2020-06-10T20:58:23","modified_gmt":"2020-06-10T20:58:23","slug":"innovation-anthology-924","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2018\/01\/09\/innovation-anthology-924\/","title":{"rendered":"#924: Mal Carroll: Developing Base Mine Lake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/innovationanthology.com\/uploads\/1-Innovation Anthology 924.mp3\">Download MP3 Link<\/a><\/p>\n<div>Reclamation is the fourth stream of research and development at Syncrude.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>One pilot project at the oil sands site is the creation of Base Mine Lake.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As Mal Carroll explains, this is a spent mine pit which has been capped with processed clays and filled with water to create a lake.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Mal Carroll is Syncrude\u2019s General Manager of Research and Development.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">MAL CARROLL:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Our latest focus has been on the turbidity of the lake. \u00a0It\u2019s important that you have clear water so that the light can penetrate the lake and the aquatic ecosystem can start to develop. \u00a0So Fluid fine tails, of course, leaves residual cloudiness in the lake.
