Clint Undseth is the Vice President of Innovation with the construction giant, Stuart Olson. \u00a0Clint was in Edmonton recently to speak at NAIT\u2019s Research and Innovation Symposium.<\/p>\n

One hot topic is smart buildings. \u00a0How can construction meet the challenge of new technologies and changing demographics?<\/p>\n

CLINT UNDSETH:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0If you look at a 60 year old versus a 40 year old versus a 30 year old, their needs and their expectations and their work space and their study space and their living space are different . \u00a0And so how is building responding to these different needs and expectations? \u00a0And technologies played a big role, whether it\u2019s air quality, whether it\u2019s light levels, whether it\u2019s how we move and adjust the infrastructure in the facilities therein. \u00a0People today work much differently. \u00a0We see young people, they collaborate on the fly. \u00a0They can be in a meeting but they are all on their mobile devices, they\u2019re researching, they\u2019re texting, whatever they\u2019re doing, they\u2019re multitasking. \u00a0Right? \u00a0How do buildings better respond, how do buildings better anticipate and facilitate these changes? \u00a0So when we speak about smart buildings, that\u2019s a big part of it.<\/em><\/p>\n

According to Clint Undseth, future building construction involves algorithms, analytics and even artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
