Two applied research subsidiaries &#8211; Innotech Alberta and C-Fer Technologies &#8211;&nbsp; serve public and private sector interests.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_text et_pb_module et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_text_align_left  et_pb_text_2\">\n<p>The Alberta Innovates system was first created in January 2010, as  part of an overall innovation framework developed within the Alberta  Research and Innovation Act.
