{"id":2212,"date":"2017-04-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-04-25T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2018\/02\/01\/innovation-anthology-862\/"},"modified":"2018-05-10T03:18:38","modified_gmt":"2018-05-10T03:18:38","slug":"innovation-anthology-862","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2017\/04\/25\/innovation-anthology-862\/","title":{"rendered":"#862: C-FER Researches Enhanced Geothermal For Electricity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/innovationanthology.com\/uploads\/Innovation Anthology 862.mp3\">Download MP3 Link<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\">Most people associate geothermal energy with the production of heat.<\/span><br style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\" \/><br style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\" \/><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\">But geothermal can also be used to produce electricity.<\/span><br style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\" \/><br style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\" \/><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\">Brandon Curkan is a research engineer with C-FER Technologies, a subsidiary of Alberta Innovates.<\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><br style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\" \/><br style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\" \/><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\">He&#8217;s working on the development of Enhanced Geothermal Systems for power.<\/span><br style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\" \/><br style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\" \/><span style=\"color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-size: 14px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">BRANDON CURKAN: <\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;\">&nbsp;EGS is a little special because you can do that potentially anywhere in the world. &nbsp;For geothermal system you need three things to exist. &nbsp;You need water, permeability and heat. &nbsp; In a hydrothermal system, that all exists already. &nbsp;But anywhere around the world if you drill deep enough, you can find heat. &nbsp;So the idea with EGS is you produce your own water reservoir. &nbsp;You drill a well deep enough to get to the heat, inject water, and then you can produce that water in a closed system. &nbsp; &nbsp;So you can theoretically do it anywhere.
