Emissions Reduction Alberta has just announced four winners in the second round of its Grand Challenge.<\/span>

The purpose of the Grand Challenge is to find and accelerate technologies that turn waste carbon dioxide into a valuable feedstock for industry.<\/span>

And these must reduce CO2<\/span> emissions by at one megatonne a year in Alberta.<\/span>

Steve McDonald is ERA’s CEO.<\/span>

STEVE MCDONALD: <\/span>   So in 2014 we committed funding to 24 projects.  We called that our Round One.  Each of our 24 winners received $500,000 and two years to advance their technologies.    So now what we’ve done is moved to Round Two of our competition. And we’ve selected four winners.  Three of them were actually Round One winners, and then a new entry.  And each of these Round Two winners will receive up to $3 million to accelerate their technologies over the next two years.  And the ultimate goal in 2019 is for one of these four projects to receive up to a $10 million in funding to help advance their technology further in Alberta and basically commercialize it right here in the province.<\/span><\/span>  <\/span>

The four winners in Round Two of the Grand Challenge are Solidia Technologies, Carbon Cure, Mangrove Water Technologies, and McGill University.<\/span>
