{"id":2154,"date":"2017-01-24T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-01-24T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2018\/02\/01\/innovation-anthology-840\/"},"modified":"2018-05-10T03:27:40","modified_gmt":"2018-05-10T03:27:40","slug":"innovation-anthology-840","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2017\/01\/24\/innovation-anthology-840\/","title":{"rendered":"#840: Genome Alberta: Preventing Pipeline Corrosion From Microbes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/innovationanthology.com\/uploads\/Innovation Anthology 840.mp3\">Download MP3 Link<\/a><\/p>\n<p>INNOVATION ANTHOLOGY &nbsp;#840<br style=\"\" \/><br style=\"\" \/>Environmental damage from pipeline spills is definitely a top of mind issue for the public.<br style=\"\" \/><br style=\"\" \/>Researchers  funded by Genome Alberta are looking at what role microbes play in  corroding pipelines. &nbsp;Also, what can be done to prevent or mitigate this  corrosion, thereby reducing the risk of pipeline spills in arctic or  marine environments.<br style=\"\" \/><br style=\"\" \/>Dr. David Bailey is the President and CEO of Genome Alberta.<br style=\"\" \/><br style=\"\" \/><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">DR  DAVID BAILEY:<\/span> &nbsp;<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">One of the major problems in moving energy in the form  oil or bitumen is the corrosion in the pipelines leading to spills.&nbsp;&nbsp; And  a big factor in that is the microbial community that is actually  breaking down the material and allowing that seepage to happen.
