Not only has the Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation changed its name, it has also announced new funding to attack greenhouse gases.<\/span>

ERA, or Emissions Reduction Alberta has earmarked up to 40 million dollars to support the development of new technologies to lower methane emissions.<\/span>

As ERA’s Steve Macdonald explains, the Alberta government is calling for a methane reduction of 45 percent by 2025.<\/span>

STEVE MACDONALD :  <\/span>  The total value of the call is up to 40 million dollars. No more than $5 million per any one target.  Anyone can apply. This is technology developers, industry, small & medium size enterprises, municipalities, universities, even individuals.  So ideas can come from anywhere.  But all the projects must demonstrate a clear and justified value propposition for addressing methane emissions in Alberta.  Anything at a field pilot or demonstration project level must be done in Alberta.  So there’s a whole range of opportunities for promising ideas.<\/span><\/span>  <\/span>

Steve McDonald says oil and gas contributes about 70 percent of Alberta’s methane emissions, with the rest coming from agriculture and waste management.<\/span>
