{"id":1987,"date":"2016-04-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-04-12T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2018\/02\/01\/innovation-anthology-772\/"},"modified":"2018-05-10T20:05:00","modified_gmt":"2018-05-10T20:05:00","slug":"innovation-anthology-772","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2016\/04\/12\/innovation-anthology-772\/","title":{"rendered":"#772: Ecosystem Services Defined"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/innovationanthology.com\/uploads\/Innovation Anthology 772.mp3\">Download MP3 Link<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As early as the 1980&#8217;s, environmental leaders have said the  environment has a value, and as natural capital, it should be included  in the economic bottom line. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is ever more important as the world moves towards a greener, bio-based economy. <\/p>\n<p>Over  the last few years, the people at Alberta Innovates Bio Solutions and  Technology Futures have actually been working on the economic framework  for this new paradigm.<\/p>\n<p>Carol Bettac is the Executive Director Responsible for Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">CAROL  BETTAC<\/span>: <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">&nbsp;Ecosystem services is defined as the benefits that people get  from nature. &nbsp;So it&#8217;s the things like water purification, pollination,  air purification, those kinds of things. &nbsp;
