{"id":1983,"date":"2016-04-05T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-04-05T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2018\/02\/01\/innovation-anthology-770\/"},"modified":"2018-05-10T20:05:29","modified_gmt":"2018-05-10T20:05:29","slug":"innovation-anthology-770","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.innovationanthology.com\/import\/2016\/04\/05\/innovation-anthology-770\/","title":{"rendered":"#770: Brain Research Into PTSD Memories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/innovationanthology.com\/uploads\/Innovation Anthology 770.mp3\">Download MP3 Link<\/a><\/p>\n<p>People suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder have a difficult time letting go of painful memories.<\/p>\n<p>Also, they become fearful in otherwise non-threatening situations.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Maria Morena is a post-doctoral fellow from Italy now working at the Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Morena is researching fear memory and how this is both created and extinguished.<\/p>\n<p>So she is focusing on &nbsp;the chemical pathways or communication between the amygdala and the pre-frontal cortex in the brain.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">DR MARIA MORENA: <\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"font-style: italic;\">PTSD patients have hypo activiation of the pre-frontal cortex and, hyper activiation of the amygdala.&nbsp; So the amygdala assigns the emotional importance to an event. &nbsp;Usually its a fear response. &nbsp;And often this fear response happens following safe events.
