Brett Wilson spoke in Edmonton recently.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt;\nfont-family:&quot;Trebuchet MS&quot;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt;\nfont-family:&quot;Trebuchet MS&quot;\">Crowds as diverse as country music agents and university researchers gathered to hear what<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>this former <em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style:normal\">Dragon Den&#8217;s<\/em> star had to say about innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt;\nfont-family:&quot;Trebuchet MS&quot;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt;\nfont-family:&quot;Trebuchet MS&quot;\">I asked Brett if Canada has an innovation deficit? <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt;font-family:&quot;Trebuchet MS&quot;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight:normal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt;font-family:&quot;Trebuchet MS&quot;\">BRETT WILSON:<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/strong><em style=\"mso-bidi-font-style:\nnormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt;font-family:\n&quot;Trebuchet MS&quot;;color:black\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span>I don&#8217;t feel like there&#8217;s a deficit in innovation.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I feel that we have lagged the world in celebrating entrepreneurship.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Because I keep emphasizing it&#8217;s the entrepreneurs who are going to keep driving innovation, because they are on the ground and they are solving problems.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>And one of the greatest solutions to a problem is to innovate a new answer, as opposed to creating an environment where, oh, we&#8217;re all going to sit around and innovate and see what we do with it.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>And again, I&#8217;m taking the metric and flipping it, and saying, why don&#8217;t we celebrate, encourage and build a spirit and environment where entrepreneurship is the norm.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:yes\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>So if the goal is entrepreneurship, the result is innovation.
